Lego Galaxy Explorer Short Animation
I was inspired to try and animate a short about the Galaxy Explorer after hearing Elon Musk Talk. He's always inspirational.
I found an impressive Exhaust type of animation and wanted to use that in the animation.
I also wanted to show the metal of the engine glowing and used this tutorial here.
I also found that you can add multiple cameras into a scene goto the timeline make sure the mouse is hovering over the timeline and click control b to bind the camera to the frame you want. This will make jump cuts with all your cameras. You can select this in the timeline and move them to make the shots longer or shorter.
This allowed me to just hit render and all the shots were rendered in one go.
But this method was a little awkward when trying to revise. I could just goto each section and rerender the frames in that sequence. I also used Davinci resolve 20 to put the sound design in.
I found different sounds i thought might sound interesting and looked for some music too.
Animating the crew was just rotating heads. A second round of revision and the heads turn in a way where your eye follows the first one and then the one above the pilot. I made the pilot not turn his head because he is driving the ship. THe first test looked to chaotic and random head turning.
I did one round of basic animation and a few revisions. An example is adding a glowing yellow button when the red crew member's hand pushes the button starting the engine.
